Jarred Brooks recently shared that he suffered significant damage to his legs in his outing against Joshua Pacio.

‘The Monkey God’ accomplished his goal of becoming a world champion at ONE 164. Brooks took out the long-reigning divisional king and extended his promotional record to 4-0.

During an interview with ONE, the newly-crowned strawweight world champion had this to say when asked if he’s back in the gym training:

“No, I'm not back training today. Just Coach Glove wanted me to come over and show him the belt, so I figured I would stop by. My legs are a little torn up from Joshua Pacio. So kudos to Josh.”

Brooks made his ONE debut in November 2021 after building a record of 16-2. The 29-year-old strawweight has backed up his trash talk by becoming the ONE strawweight world champion. The question is, what’s next for the American?

ONE Championship will likely give Pacio an immediate rematch, especially considering he was the champion for over three years. Brooks already has wins over the second and third-ranked fighters in the division. If ‘The Monkey God’ beats ‘The Passion’ again, there’s a possibility he could be the world champion for a long time.

Joshua Pacio was satisfied with his takedown defense against Jarred Brooks

Although Joshua Pacio lost his world title, there were some positives to take away. The Team Lakay fighter avoided Jarred Brooks’ relentless grappling to prevent a loss inside the distance. During an interview with Sparring Sessions, Pacio had this to say about his loss to Brooks:

“If I’ll assess myself, I believe I was doing good in rounds 1 to 3. My takedown defense held up. Props to my strength and conditioning as well. If I wasn’t able to build strength, I wouldn’t have been able to stop those takedowns. Credit to the wrestling drills we did in the gym with coach Mark [Sangiao] and our wrestling coach Ali [Heydarabadi].”

Pacio’s loss at ONE 164 was his first since Yosuke Saruta claimed a tight split decision victory against him in January 2019. ‘The Passion’ has shown that he has the ability to bounce back from a tough loss as he recaptured championship gold three months later.
