Jarred Brooks compares ONE Fight Night 24 opponent Gustavo Balart to Cuban MMA legends Yoel Romero, Hector Lombard

Jarred Brooks is not usually known for giving his opponents too many compliments before he steps in there with them.

Whilst respect is always shown after the contest, the American is never afraid to say what he thinks about his fellow competitors.

Despite his usual no filter approach, 'The Monkey God' has only had positive things to say about his upcoming opponent.

After losing the strawweight title in shocking circumstances at ONE 166, Brooks will now fight for the interim title due to the injury that Joshua Pacio suffered.

He faces Gustavo Balart at ONE Fight Night 24 in the main event inside Lumpinee Stadium on August 2.

In a recent interview with Sportskeeda MMA, Brooks spoke about the incredible longevity that Balart has had in his career.

After a long and successful career in wrestling, he is at the top of the strawweight division at 37 years old.

Brooks compared him to some of his fellow countrymen who have also competed deep into their 30s and early 40s:

"You see Yoel Romero, you see Hector Lombard, and him, I mean, he's still going at 37 the way he is. So much respect for him for keeping it going at a very very hard rate. So I don't see it as much of a factor."

Wrestling has been a key weapon for Jarred Brooks since his arrival in ONE Championship.

With that in mind, this is why he respects an opponent like Gustavo Balart so much because he also comes in with a heavy grappling pedigree.

Brooks has already beaten many of the top names in the weight class but his next opponent provides a unique threat to him.

The former champion is ready to claim back a piece of the world championship by getting his hand raised on August 2.
