Jarred Brooks is ready for any strawweight title contender looking to dethrone him.
On December 3, 2022, ‘The Monkey God’ made his dreams come true by defeating Joshua Pacio for the ONE strawweight world championship. The American made his ONE debut in November 2021 and has since defeated all four of his opponents.
Brooks recently made an Instagram post sending a warning to all future strawweight title contenders:
“I fight everyone accordingly. Everyone is their own form of beast , but to take down a deadlier beast you have to get to know it . I know all of you up and comers ,to the people I aspire to beat . When I know you ,I can beat you . And I have every intention in doing so ! #one #onechampionship”

Before Brooks dethroned Pacio at ONE 164, ‘The Passion’ held the strawweight title for 1331 days, with an additional 119 days during his first title reign in 2018. ‘The Monkey God’ also took out two other ranked strawweights before becoming the champion, which raises the question, who has the skills to beat the American?
What’s next for Jarred Brooks?
The ONE strawweight division is as open as ever now that Jarred Brooks is the champion. Brooks fought three times in 2022 and doesn’t plan on slowing down in the new calendar year. If Joshua Pacio doesn’t get an immediate rematch, ‘The Monkey God’ has several options for his next opponent.
After the successful mixed-rules bout between Demetrious Johnson and Rodtang, ONE Championship is interested in making similar super-fights. Therefore, it wouldn't be farfetched to imagine Brooks competing in a champion versus champion match against 'Mighty Mouse' if the latter wins his trilogy with Adriano Moraes in May.
Although the idea of fighting Johnson is intriguing, Brooks likely wants a quick turnaround. ‘The Monkey God’ could end up fighting number four-ranked Gustavo Balart or number five-ranked Danial Williams, the only ranked strawweights he hasn’t beaten.
The best option would be an instant rematch against Pacio because of his lengthy world title reign. This would give the other contenders time to make a statement for their opportunity later in the year.
