Jarred Brooks provided a brief prediction for the upcoming strawweight matchup between Bokang Masunyane vs. Hiroba Minowa.
Brooks last fought in December 2022, defeating Joshua Pacio to become the ONE strawweight MMA world champion. As the new king of the division, ‘The Monkey God’ is keeping a close eye on the top strawweight fighters.
On April 22, number two-ranked Masunyane and number three-ranked Minowa will look to solidify a title shot with a win at ONE Fight Night 9 on Prime Video. SCMP MMA shared the intriguing strawweight matchup on Instagram, with Brooks commenting:
“If no takedowns minowa takedowns bokang !!”

Masunyane made his ONE Championship debut in December 2019. After winning his first two fights against Ryuto Sawada and Rene Catalan, ‘Little Giant’ suffered his only professional MMA loss against Brooks by first-round submission. He now looks to bounce back exactly one year later at ONE Fight Night 9.
Meanwhile, Minowa fought with ONE for the first time in November 2020, defeating Lito Adiwang by split decision. Several months later, he took out Alex Silva with another split decision. Similar to Masunyane, the Japanese-born fighter’s last fight was against Brooks, where he suffered a unanimous decision loss in January 2022.
What’s next for Jarred Brooks?
Jarred Brooks finds himself in an intriguing spot. After defeating Joshua Pacio for the strawweight throne, it’s unclear what’s next. The most likely option would be Pacio getting an instant rematch, considering his latest title reign lasted 1331 days. With that said, the Asia-based promotion might decide to go in a different direction.
Brooks holds wins over the top three-ranked strawweights - Pacio, Bokang Masunyane, and Hiroba Minowa. If ‘The Passion’ doesn’t get an instant rematch, there’s an argument for ‘The Monkey God’ to be matched up against Gustavo Balart, Danial Williams, or Jeremy Miado.
‘The Monkey God’ made his ONE Championship debut in November 2021, defeating Lito Adiwang by second-round submission. He went on to take out Minowa and Masunyane to earn his strawweight title shot at ONE 164. On December 3, 2022, the American made his dreams come true by becoming a world champion.
