Jarred Brooks is just days away from the biggest fight of his mixed martial arts career. ‘The Monkey God’ will attempt to capture his first ONE world champion, taking on reigning strawweight titleholder Joshua Pacio in the main event of ONE 164 this Saturday.
Both fighters have been preparing for one another since the spring. Now the two will finally clash when ONE Championship returns to Manila for a massive double-header featuring four world title fights, all headlined by a highly-anticipated strawweight title showdown.
Just days out from their meeting, ‘The Monkey God’ spoke with The MMA Superfan about Pacio’s preparation and Team Lakay’s attempts to replicate his own style in their sparring sessions:
“We’ll see if he’s preparing well for me in the fight. You can have all of the best wrestlers, all of the best people in there trying to work, nobody is going to ever feel like me. We’ll see how that preparation goes.”

Brooks’ wrestle-heavy approach is expected to be on full display on Saturday night. Of course, ‘The Monkey God’ is never one to shy away from an opportunity to stand and trade, but the smart money will be on Brooks using his superior grappling skills to try and gain an advantage on Saturday night.

Lito Adiwang is helping Joshua Pacio prepare for Jarred Brooks at ONE 164
When Jarred Brooks made his ONE Championship debut, he delivered a dominant showing against Team Lakay team member Lito Adiwang, submitting him in the second round. Now, Adiwang is helping his teammate Joshua Pacio prepare for the power and wrestling skills that ‘The Monkey God’ brings to the circle.
In an interview with ONE, Team Lakay’s head coach Mark Sangiao discussed Joshua Pacio’s game plan heading into the main event showdown and confirmed that former Brooks opponent Lito Adiwang was assisting with the preparation:
“We already know how physically strong Brooks is, especially with his wrestling. We’re working hard to defend, counter, and execute the perfect game plan to stop his takedowns. Plus, Lito Adiwang also gave us pointers when he last fought Jarred.”
Jarred Brooks will be looking for his fourth and biggest win yet at ONE 164 this weekend. Previously, ‘The Monkey God’ has dispatched Hiroba Minowa, Bokang Masunyane, and the aforementioned Adiwang. A win over ‘The Passion’ would give Brooks his second victory over a Team Lakay fighter in addition to making him the promotion’s newest world champion.
