After a five-round battle, Jarred Brooks became the new ONE strawweight world champion at ONE 164. It was a fight on the feet and on the ground. In the end, Brooks was incredibly grateful that he worked on his footwork and movement.

In an interview with ONE Championship, the American fighter explained:

"Just working my movement and feints into punching more, I did a lot of movement. Don't get me wrong, that's what caught him in a lullaby but there are a lot of instances where I felt like I could have struck at that point in time, and I didn't, a lot of openings that I could have taken advantage of."

Jarred Brooks won physically and mentally

Jarred Brooks believes that he didn't just win the bout due to one factor. He won thanks to wrestling, striking, footwork, plus the mental edge he gained from trash talk.

'The Monkey God' talked a lot of trash in the lead-up to the Pacio fight. While speaking to ONE, he explained his attitude:

“He had something that I wanted. I mean, it's more, at the end of the day, and it's more in all angles, I'm going to bring it mentally, I'm going to bring it physically on you. I'm going to make you feel like you aren't the fighter that you want [to be]. Because why wouldn't I make it easier on myself at the end of the day?”

Brooks believes mental warfare is not optional, to be a world champion one must use every advantage one may have. 'The Monkey God' explained:

“All of these guys, I just fought for a world championship, he's a world champion, he is dangerous. You have to approach the fight game like it's mental warfare and physical warfare. So yeah, it's just a way of getting in your opponent's head. And that's how you win fights at the end of the day. And that's been good for me.”
