When Jarred Brooks stepped into the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila for his ONE 164 main clash with hometown hero Joshua Pacio, ‘The Monkey God’ was the clear villain of the story.
After successfully capturing the ONE strawweight world championship, Brooks had nothing but positive things to say about the Filipino people and how he was treated after his victory.
In an interview with ONE Championship, Jarred Brooks revealed that he was treated “like a king” in the Philippines and enjoyed taking time to just rest and relax before getting back to work:
“Yeah, I've been out, definitely. After my fight in the Philippines, I was actually greeted and treated like a king in the Philippines, it was pretty dope. Coming back. I mean, dude, I don't party really. So I just relaxed and tried to get over this jetlag, then get back to work next week.”

It’s too early to say when or where Jarred Brooks will defend his ONE strawweight world championship for the first time, but ‘The Monkey God’ has acknowledged that his rivalry with former titleholder Joshua Pacio is likely far from over:
"This isn’t the end with Joshua Pacio. We were just talking about it too. So, I would love to give him another chance in Denver in the United States. He can come to my home turf and we can see where it goes from there."
Loss to Jarred Brooks was bitter pill for Joshua Pacio to swallow but is willing to accept potential rematch
For Joshua Pacio, suffering a loss to Jarred Brooks was a bitter pill to swallow, particularly when doing so in his home country. Sharing his feelings after the loss, Pacio told ONE Championship:
“At the end of the day, all is well, and I would like to thank our almighty God because I didn’t get any serious injuries. The loss might be a bitter pill for me to take, but I am sure I will learn many things from it.”
Despite the loss, Pacio is more than willing to accept a rematch against Jarred Brooks should ONE Championship offer it, but he is by no means lobbying to run back the ONE 164 main event right away.
“I trained almost every day to improve. I’ll take this loss as a big lesson. I’m confident that I’ll come back stronger after this. I’m not in a hurry to regain my crown but if they offer me the rematch, I’ll definitely going to take it 100%. But if not, I’ll just continue to level up my game.”
