Violent slams have always been a big part of Jarred Brooks' wicked mixed martial arts arsenal. In fact, it's probably the first move that comes to mind with the mere mention of 'The Monkey God's name.

However, in a cruel twist of fate, Brooks' signature move became the reason he lost his strawweight MMA world championship at ONE 166 last March.

After picking rival Joshua Pacio up, Brooks inadvertently spiked the Filipino on his neck, resulting in an immediate disqualification for the American.

It seems like Brooks learned his lesson and avoided slams entirely for his training camp with upcoming opponent Gustavo Balart.

The Mash Fight Team affiliate said during an interview with the South China Morning Post:

"I've been training for three months for this fight, and I have not trained one slam. I'm going out with a very different mindset into this fight."

The interim strawweight MMA world title will be on the line at ONE Fight Night 24, with Brooks and Balart throwing down to see who takes home with the hardware.

While we probably shouldn't expect slams from Brooks on this one, he promises not to stray away from his grappling roots altogether. He added:

"Don't get me wrong, I'm willing to wrestle with Gustavo Balart if he gives me that opportunity."

While Jarred Brooks respects Balart's Olympic wrestling pedigree, he doubts the Cuban has the skills to hang with his laser-quick strikes.

In an interview with ONE, 'The Monkey God' said he'd love to score a highlight reel knockout over 'El Gladiador':

"He's very beatable. You could catch him with a kick to the body or a kick to the head. I think the kicks are going to be a big factor in this fight."

ONE Fight Night 24 will air live in US Primetime on Aug. 2 from the iconic Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. This event is free for Prime Video subscribers in the United States and Canada.
