Javier Mendez recently offered a candid perspective on the possibility of Khabib Nurmagomedov losing control at UFC 311. Although it has been over four years since 'The Eagle' hung up his gloves for good after submitting Justin Gaethje at UFC 254 in October 2020, he remains deeply involved in the sport, albeit in a different capacity.
The UFC Hall of Famer is now overseeing the training camps and will be in the corner of Islam Makhachev, who is set to defend his lightweight title against Arman Tsarukyan in the main event at UFC 311 on January 18. Nurmagomedov will also be guiding his cousin Umar, who is poised to challenge bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili in the co-main event on the same night.
Although Nurmagomedov is celebrated for his composed demeanor outside the octagon, he has often displayed intense passion when cornering his kin.

During a recent interview with MMA journalist Helen Yee, Mendez playfully clarified that he bears no responsibility if Nurmagomedov's emotions run high following the potential outcomes of Makhachev and Umar’s respective bouts at UFC 311:
No, I stopped [explaining it to him]. It wasn't working. He goes nuts. No, I'm not going to even try. I'm just going to focus on the fight myself and look at it from that point of view. I gave up. I'm not helping on that. Sorry, commission guys. I'm not going to help. They're on their own."

When Javier Mendez shared insights into Khabib Nurmagomedov's iconic "father's plan"
During Khabib Nurmagomedov's UFC career, his coach, Javier Mendez, was frequently heard from the corner urging him to follow "father's plan". This catchphrase stemmed from the strategic blueprint created by Khabib's late father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, who played a pivotal role in shaping his son's fighting style.
In an interview with Gorilla Fighting, Mendez was asked to reveal the deeper meaning behind the iconic catchphrase. The head coach of American Kickboxing Academy explained that "father's plan" wasn’t limited to just grappling; it represented a far-reaching strategy:
"Father's plan is not grappling; a lot of people think it's grappling. It has never been grappling. It's what you have as an advantage over your opponent; that's father's plan. His father was not simple like that, and his father was very complex; he was a genius. So it wasn't about grappling... It's about using your best strengths against your opponent's weaknesses and understanding what they are."
