ONE rising star Jhanlo Mark Sangiao picked up Team Lakay’s first win of the night in the lead card of ONE 164: Pacio vs. Brooks on Saturday, December 3, inside the Mall of Asia Arena.
‘The Machine’ subbed his compatriot Anacleto Lauron with a rear-naked choke in the 1:48-minute mark of the first round in their three-round 156.25lbs catchweight bout.
‘Tenacity’ came out hot off the gates with a flying knee, but Sangiao brushed it off and trapped Lauron near the circle walls.
The 20-year-old effortlessly took the fight to the ground as he picked Lauron up and slammed him to the ground, sending the Mall of Asia Arena crowd into a frenzy.

From there, the Team Lakay fighter exerted his dominance by taking Lauron’s back. He softened him up with some thundering ground and pound and quickly got under Lauron’s chin for a rear-naked choke. He kept Lauron in place with a tight body triangle.
That frightening squeeze had the ONE Warrior Series: Philippines alumnus tapping in no time.

Meanwhile, Lauron came in as a last-minute replacement for Sangiao’s original opponent, Matias Farinelli, who bowed out of the contest for undisclosed reasons.
The change of opponent did not seem to bother ‘The Machine’ as he also took home a cool $50,000 bonus. He is the first Team Lakay member to receive the performance incentive.
With the win, Jhanlo Mark Sangiao took his undefeated MMA record to 5-0 and moved to 2-0 inside the circle.
The promising Filipino star previously demolished Paul Lumihi with a rear-naked choke in his promotional debut at ONE: Winter Warriors II last year.
Jhanlo Mark Sangiao did not take Anacleto Lauron lightly
Despite having more fights under his belt against the inexperienced Lauron, Sangiao was still wary of his last-minute opponent.
The son and namesake of Team Lakay head coach Mark Sangiao beautifully played the card that was dealt to him.
The Baguio native, after all, is quite familiar with Lauron since he trained inside his family’s fabled gym during the filming of ONE Warrior Series: Philippines.
Jhanlo Mark Sangiao said during the ONE 164 press conference:
“I see this guy [Lauron] as a tough guy also because he competed in ONE Warrior Series. I will not underestimate this guy. This guy can do anything but I’m here to fight.”
