Filipino rising star Jhanlo Mark Sangiao jumps back into action next month, taking on unbeaten Argentinian Matias Farinelli.

'The Machine,' fighting out of Team Lakay, battles the debuting Farinelli in a bantamweight showdown, part of ONE Fight Night 9 on Prime Video on April 21 at the famed Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok.

The match was supposed to take place last December in Manila at ONE 164, but the Demonios Team Argentina fighter had to pull out because of COVID-19. That forced Jhanlo Mark Sangiao to take on fellow Filipino fighter Anacleto Lauron on short notice, where he emerged the winner by submission in the first round and earned a $50,000 performance bonus.

The upcoming fight will be the third in ONE Championship for Jhanlo Mark Sangiao since making his promotional debut in December 2021. The 20-year-old fighter is being mentored by his own father, Mark, in their gym in the mountainous city of Baguio, Philippines.

Farinelli, meanwhile, will be fighting in ONE for the first time. He is currently training at the Thailand-based gym Tiger Muay Thai. Prior to joining the promotion, he won five straight, all coming by way of submission.

ONE Fight Night 9 is headlined by the ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world title clash between reigning champion Nong-O Hama and English challenger Jonathan Haggerty.

The event will air live and for free to all Prime Video subscribers in North America.

Jhanlo Mark Sangiao and Stephen Loman praised by Chatri Sityodtong

Team Lakay fighter Jhanlo Mark Sangiao has been making strides in his ONE Championship journey since debuting in December 2021, and it has not gone unnoticed.

ONE CEO and chairman Chatri Sityodtong has made it known that 'The Machine' is one of the young fighters he is impressed with, along with another Filipino fighter in Stephen Loman.

Following the promotion’s event last December in Manila, where Jhanlo Mark Sangiao took part in the circle, Sityodtong shared his thoughts on the new-generation Team Lakay warriors.

The ONE executive said:

"It does look like that there’s a passing of the torch, but if you look at Filipino MMA at the world’s highest level, a guy like Jhanlo, a guy like Stephen Loman, these are killers. And if that’s the next generation, I’m telling you, the future of the Philippines is gonna produce world champions once again, no doubt."

Both Sangiao and Loman are undefeated in ONE and are among the latest fighters from the famous gym in Baguio City in the Philippines to make waves in the promotion. They are following in the footsteps of former world champions Eduard Folayang, Kevin Belingon, Joshua Pacio, Geje Eustaquio, and Honorio Banario.
