Joe Rogan astounded by how Tyler Perry's "$800 million" expansion is halted due to Sora AI

Like most people, Joe Rogan is startled by how quickly artificial intelligence, AI, has grown in 2024. Most importantly, Rogan is in disbelief at how much technology is impacting the modern world.

Rogan discussed his thoughts with Ari Matti on a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience while bringing up an example involving American actor Tyler Perry. The 57-year-old said he could not believe how quick Perry was to halt the production of his $800 studio after seeing the AI model known as Sora.

Rogan said:

"Well you saw that Tyler Perry shut down the plans to build this enormous studio. He was going to build an $800 million production studio... He has this enormous production company that he's about to build and he [stops it]. He sees Sora and he's like: 'What? You guys can do this now?'"

Joe Rogan: Tyler Perry's studio put on hold due to AI

In the next step of his career, Tyler Perry had been working on building a large production studio in Atlanta that cost him $800 million. However, he immediately put his plans on hold after seeing the capabilities of Sora, a text-to-video service of OpenAI.

As he told the Hollywood Reporter, Perry was appalled by the advancement Sora brought to the entertainment industry. Perry said that he would "no longer have to travel to locations" to shoot scenes with Sora, which could make it look like he was "in the snow" with just a text command.

As of August, Perry's lucrative project is still on hold. The writer, director, and actor is currently working on the upcoming release of his films Six Triple Eight and Madea's Destination Wedding.
