"One of the most disturbing and important conversations I’ve ever had. Cobalt is in every smartphone and most battery powered technology, and the mining of it in the Congo takes place under the most inhumane conditions imaginable. Siddharth Kara risked his life to expose this, and I am deeply grateful that he came on the podcast to tell this story."
Kara's book, titled Cobalt Red: How the Blood of the Congo Powers Our Lives, releases on January 31, 2023. Kara noted that every cobalt mine in the Congo relies on child slavery.

Joe Rogan discusses the effects of media censorship
Joe Rogan, who often discusses topics that many may deem controversial, recently shared his thoughts on the effects of media censorship. Speaking to guest Steve Rinella on episode #1912 of JRE, the UFC commentator stated:
"This is what people don't understand when they try to impose censorship. It goes all the way through. You will eventually get to a point where it's only state sanctioned information that's allowed to be distributed if you allow censorship... The truth dies with censorship."
Rogan noted that censoring topics in an attempt to influence public discourse is harmful to society. He cited the scandal involving Hunter Biden, as it was recently revealed that Twitter may have worked to censor the story out of fear that it could influence the 2020 presidential election. While it is impossible to know what effect that may have had on the election, Rogan shared his belief that the story shouldn't have been hidden.
