On episode #2236 of The Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan welcomed a trio of friends and fellow comedians: Shane Gillis, Mark Normand, and Ari Shaffir. The group tackled topics including another friend of Rogan's, comedian Tony Hinchcliffe, who recently drew controversy for a joke about Puerto Rico.

The incident took place at a political rally for Donald Trump in the closing stages of the latter's presidential race. Hinchcliffe was brought on stage and described Puerto as an 'island of garbage.' Despite the widespread condemnation he drew, Rogan believes insult comics like Hinchcliffe are the future.

To drive his point home, the UFC commentator recounted Hinchcliffe's performance at Tom Brady's roast.

"He was just doing what he always does. He's an insult comic. Are you saying you don't like insult comedy? So you don't like roasts? Listen, man. Roasts are one of the things that are gonna save comedy, because they're so funny that it's undeniable to Netflix. So Netflix gets the highest ratings they've ever had ever on this Tom Brady roast. It's completely non-PC. It's some of the wildest jokes."

While Rogan spoke up in Hinchcliffe's defense, the Trump campaign team subsequently distanced themselves from the comedian and his remarks. Hinchcliffe, however, remained unapologetic and defiant in the face of criticism, with Rogan being among the few comedians to defend him.

The two are close friends, and Hinchcliffe has appeared on Rogan's podcast several times. Both men are also known supporters of Trump, with Hinchcliffe appearing at Trump's rally and Rogan welcoming the now-President-elect on episode #2219 of his podcast.

Tony Hinchcliffe wasn't the only friend of Joe Rogan's at Tony Brady's roast

UFC CEO Dana White, a close friend of Joe Rogan's, was also present for Tom Brady's roast. He is a noted fan of the New England Patriots, the NFL team that Brady is most associated with, having spent most of his legendary career playing under Bill Belichick's dynasty.
