Joe Rogan hosted filmmaker and actor Mel Gibson in episode #2254 of The Joe Rogan Experience, where the actor revealed details about his potential upcoming film and its relation to the pope.

The UFC commentator and actor discussed several topics, ranging from Hollywood to politics. One such topic was the existence of spiritual realms.

The director of The Passion of the Christ recalled an incident where the pope participated in a Pachamama ceremony in the church, comparing it with the Biblical story of Moses and explaining why the ceremony was wrong. Gibson said:

"I mean, we got a pope that brought a South American idol into the church to worship. He did the Pachamama. He brought the South—he got it. It's like a South American god, Pachamama. He brought it into the Vatican.

"The hierarchy even worshipped that in a ceremony around that well, which constitutes apostasy. Moses goes up on the mountain, he comes back down, and the people are worshipping the golden calf. You can't do that.”

Rogan asked about the motivations behind people participating in the Pachamama ceremony, and Gibson admitted that he didn’t know the reasons behind it. However, he also revealed that he plans to explore it in his next film. The actor said:

"I didn't know ... It isn't good. I think we are looking at a world where— and this, in the next film I'm going to try and tackle this question—that there are big realms, spiritual realms. There's good and evil, and they are slugging it out for the souls of mankind. And my question is, why are we even important?"

Joe Rogan discusses Hollywood's disdain for Christianity on his podcast with Mel Gibson

In the aforementioned episode, Joe Rogan, during his discussion with Mel Gibson, made remarks about how Hollywood often portrays Christianity in a negative light while embracing other religions. Rogan said:

"There's resistance first of all from secular Hollywood where, for whatever reason, Christianity is the one religion that you're allowed to disparage... Christianity is the one religion where people, all these progressive, open-minded leftist people, they'll embrace all these different religions until it comes to Christianity.
"For whatever reason, that represents like 'white male,' you know, whatever it represents, 'colonialism,' you know, whatever it represents it's negative."
