Jon Jones falls in love with his custom UFC shorts ahead of Stipe Miocic fight: "Gonna wear them to sleep tonight"

UFC's official outfitter Venum just released a wicked new design for Jon Jones' fight shorts at UFC 309. 'Bones' is set to defend his UFC heavyweight title against Stipe Miocic inside the iconic Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The new design echo Jones' spirit animal, the lion, emblazoned on the patterns of the fabric. This couldn't be more fitting, as the two-division UFC champion has been the king of the jungle for over a decade. He's dispatched waves and waves of enemies to keep his throne - much like how the lion protects his pride.

UFC Europe posted a video of Jones seeing his new shorts for the first time:

A visibly excited 'Bones' said while holding the shorts:

"The really cool. That's really, really cool. I'm so excited to [wear] there. The lion. It's got my favorite bible verse. It's got the cross. The last name. Let's go."

Jones added:

"I'm probably gonna wear them to sleep tonight, not gonna lie."

Jones also pointed out that his favorite bible verse, Philippians 4:13, is printed on the shorts as well. He explained that his mother would always recite the verse, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me, to him as a boy, which became the guiding principle of his relationship with his faith.

Like Jon Jones, Stipe Miocic, Charles Oliveira, and Michael Chandler get custom fight shorts for UFC 309

It's not just Jon Jones who'll get custom fight shorts at UFC 309 this weekend. His opponent, Stipe Miocic, and the fighters of the co-main event, Charles Oliveira and Michael Chandler, will also wear custom-made apparel.

The UFC posted the new designs on Instagram:

While Jon Jones' shorts is predominantly red with gold details befitting a champion, the challenger Stipe Miocic's shorts are mostly black with monochromatic patterns of the country of Croatia, where his parents were born.

As for Oliveira, his battle garb represent the festive colors of the Brazilian favelas in the areas where he grew up. Chandler, meanwhile, will wear a black-and-gray version of the red, white, and blue of the American flag, being a proud patriot of his country.
