Former ONE flyweight Muay Thai world champion Jonathan Haggerty is looking to make history at ONE Fight Night 9. 'The General' is looking to become one of the very few ONE world champions to hold belts in two weight classes. Moving up ten more pounds to bantamweight, the fighting Brit will challenge long-reigning king Nong-O Hama for the throne.

Moving up and bulking in weight usually means packing more power. This is quite evident in the training videos Jonathan Haggerty posts on social media. There's a different kind of pop in every hit that's not quite the same as when he was at flyweight.

Here's one of his more recent videos:

"I’m not coming to fu*k about. @onechampionship"

'The General' means business, for sure. Come April 21, he'll be on a collision course with one of the very best in Muay Thai's modern history. Nong-O Hama has the record for most world title defenses in ONE Championship Muay Thai and is on a five-fight knockout win streak.

Haggerty is going to need more than power to snatch the belt from the Thai legend come fight night. However, it does help tremendously if you have the nuclear option in your hands at all times.

Jonathan Haggerty showed power even at flyweight

Even at 135 pounds, former ONE flyweight Muay Thai world champion Jonathan Haggerty has tremendous power in his hands. Not only does 'The General' have technique, speed, and top-level fight I.Q., but he also has a lot of firepower in his fists, regardless of which weight class he's in.

In a video released by ONE Championship, Haggerty was shown disintegrating a watermelon with his punch. The video then cuts to a shot of the Fighting Brit knocking down his former opponent, Taiki Naito, with the same punch.

Here's the video:

A watermelon might not have the same toughness as a human skull, but the way it exploded from Jonathan Haggerty's punch should be taken seriously. Adding ten pounds more means he'll be much more powerful. If 'The General' connects with the same right hand on Nong-O's head, the heralded all-time great might just fall.

ONE Fight Night 9 will be available live and for free to all Prime Video subscribers in North America.
