Jonathan Haggerty recently spoke about the MMA fighters competing in ONE Championship and said they would fear his striking if they ever faced him one-on-one.

Haggerty fans remain hopeful that their Muay Thai star will eventually make the transition to MMA.

In past interviews, the Englishman has mentioned having a strong foundation in the sport, including knowing a bit of grappling and jiu-jitstu. However, Haggerty feels he has some unfinished business in Muay Thai, as he’s looking forward to winning a second world title in a new division.

Still, ‘The General’ continues to wonder what he could bring to the table if a possible switch to MMA happens soon. After all, he’s grown a lot more confident since moving up to bantamweight, so it’s plausible to believe he’ll wreak havoc in MMA as well. He told ONE Championship:

“Yeah, I feel good. You know, I've looked at the opponents in MMA and I'm not taking nothing away from it, as it is a different sport and I've never been there so I can't really say, but I'm not too impressed. I think they'll be very scared of my striking and they will just turn into wrestlers.”

Jonathan Haggerty hasn’t been tested in MMA yet but as a precursor to that eventual transition, fans will see how well he fares in the bantamweight pool on November 18.

Haggerty makes his US Prime Video and bantamweight debut against Russian juggernaut Vladimir Kuzmin at ONE on Prime Video 4.

Kuzmin is coming off a close split-decision loss against former Lumpinee Muay Thai world champion Muangthai PK.Saenchai at ONE 159. Almost winning the bout against a prolific Muay Thai striker such as Muangthai soon after making his promotional debut goes to show he’s on par with the world’s best.

Jonathan Haggerty feels more like himself at his new weight

Jonathan Haggerty’s training camp was a lot more solid since he chose to compete in the bantamweight Muay Thai division.

The last few months have been quite hard on the British striker weight-wise, but he’s pleased to let everyone know he’s feeling a lot better and more like himself every day.

He touched base with SCMP MMA ahead of his fight with Kuzmin and said:

“I’m enjoying it, I’m smiling, I’m eating and most of all I’m stronger and I’m fitter.”
