After a couple of unfortunate withdrawals, Jonathan Haggerty is headed back to the circle this Friday when ONE Championship returns to Singapore Indoor Stadium. Making his move to Muay Thai’s bantamweight division, Haggerty will take on Russian striker Vladimir Kuzmin.

While ‘The General’ is focused on getting his second win in 2022, Jonathan Haggerty can’t help but look into the future and a potential move to mixed martial arts.

Discussing his teased transition to MMA with ONE Championship, Haggerty revealed that 2023 will likely be the year he puts his ground game to the test:

“The time is now or never really, you know, so it was a tough decision whether to go straight in to pursue MMA or to go back to Muay Thai. We took the bantamweight division, we're going to see how it goes. But I feel like next year, 2023 is the year that I put some submissions on people.”

Before ‘The General’ can focus on a career change, he’ll first need to get past his first big test at bantamweight. You can watch Jonathan Haggerty’s return to the circle this Friday night on Amazon Prime Video. Subscribers of the streaming service in North America can watch the event live and for free in U.S. primetime.

Jonathan Haggerty feels better than ever after recent weight-cutting issues

Originally scheduled to take part in the ONE Flyweight Muay Thai world grand prix tournament that kicked off in May, Jonathan Haggerty was unfortunately forced to pull out of his quarter-final matchup with Walter Goncalves and thus, the tournament.

Expected to return as an alternate during the semi-final portion of the world grand prix, Haggerty was once again forced to withdraw. Recently, ‘The General’ disclosed that he ran into trouble with cutting weight - trouble that he himself takes full responsibility for.

With a new weight class and a healthier approach to being fight ready, ‘The General’ is ready to show off at ONE on Prime Video 4 this weekend:

“You know, my body felt great, but when I started putting on a sweat suit in the last sort of two weeks I just started to deteriorate and the motivation was gone. But I'm feeling healthy now. And hopefully, it will show in November.”
