Josh Thomson and John McCarthy believe the UFC bantamweight division is the most stacked weight class in the promotion.
The UFC 135-pound division has emerged as arguably the most entertaining weight class. Aljamain Sterling is currently the champion, but several contenders are closing in on their opportunity to shine. During an episode of the Weighing In podcast, McCarthy had this to say:
“The entire [bantamweight] division is stacked. That division, from champion down to fifteen, you can’t find an easy fight. You can’t. They’re that good.”
It’s difficult to argue with McCarthy unless the UFC lightweight division is your cup of tea. Thompson responded by agreeing about the excitement at 135 lbs:

“This division at 135 is the most stacked division in the sport. We’ve said this multiple times, we’re gonna continue to say it. At any point, all of these fighters can be champions. All of em. I would go all the way, and some of them have already been champions.”
Heading into 2023, it’s unclear whether Henry Cejudo or Sean O’Malley will be the first to face Sterling for the bantamweight title. Meanwhile, another top contender is expected to emerge between Marlon Vera and Cory Sandhagen at UFC Vegas 69.

Josh Thomson praises Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera
Marlon Vera has been in the UFC since 2014, but he’s now hitting his peak. The 30-year-old has won four consecutive fights, including an impressive knockout against Dominick Cruz last time out. During the same episode of the Weighing In podcast, Josh Thomson had this to say about ‘Chito’:
“Marlon Vera feels like he’s unbeatable right now. He just finds a way to get it done, whether it’s dropping you at the end of each round and getting the win that way or he’s putting you away. He’s nasty. He’s good. He makes for an interesting fight, He’s got a big fight coming up.”
The UFC Vegas 69 main event features ‘Chito,’ who is the No.4-ranked bantamweight, and Cory Sandhagen, who is ranked No.5. It’s unclear if the winner will get a title shot, but Vera has certainly made himself undeniable over the past two years. Only time will tell if the Ecuadorian native can become the next UFC bantamweight champion.
