Joshua Buatsi vs. Willy Hutchinson took place at Riyadh Season: Wembley Edition at Wembley Stadium in London, England. The bout was a feature matchup on the highly anticipated card headlined by Anthony Joshua vs. Daniel Dubois.
Buatsi came into the bout following an impressive unanimous decision win over Dan Azeez this past February to become the British and Commonwealth light heavyweight champion. He had an undefeated 18-0 professional record that includes 13 wins via KO/TKO.
Hutchinson, on the other hand, came into the bout following his unanimous decision win over Criag Richards to win the WBC Silver light heavyweight championship this past June. Like Buatsi, 13 of his 18 wins have also come via KO/TKO.

The first round saw both competitors getting a feel for their opponent's tendencies, however, the action quickly began to pick up. They traded haymakers during an exchange that saw Buatsi land a powerful right-cross followed by a stiff left jab after cornering Hutchinson, but he responded with a combination of right and left hooks before they clinched.

Buatsi found his opening in the sixth round and began unloading on Hutchinson against the ropes before dropping him with body shots. He continued going to the body in the seventh round and ended the round strong with a clean right-hook.
The ninth round saw a similar occurence as Buatsi managed to wear Hutchinson down and earned another knockdown following a left-hook to the body. He went on to maintain control of the bout en route to a split decision win to become the interim world light heavyweight championship.

Fans immediately took to X following the decision for Joshua Buatsi vs. Willy Hutchinson and bashed the judges' scorecards.
They mentioned that there was no circumstance in which Hutchinson should have been awarded a decision and noted that Buatsi was almost robbed of a well deserved win:
"Some of the scorecards on this have been criminal, fair play Buatsi though. Deserved win, the bodywork was"
"How can judges be sat beside each other, one give 113/112 to Hutchinson and one give 115/110 to Buatsi"
