The two-time defending strawweight world champion Joshua Pacio just let the world know that he isn’t going to let Jarred Brooks bully him into giving up what he’s worked so hard to protect.
The incredibly intense showdown between Joshua Pacio and ‘The Monkey God’ is set to occur on a stacked fight card at ONE 164 in Manila, Philippines. This is not the first time both rivals have been scheduled to face one another.
To no fault of his own, Brooks pulled out a week before their title fight at ONE 158 due to an undisclosed injury. With Brooks now recovered, he’s reverted back to his old self to try and get inside Pacio’s head. This time, the relatively calm and low-spoken Pacio took center stage to warn his rival with this foreboding message:
“Jarred Brooks, you’ve never fought somebody like me. This is my division. I’m not even at my peak, and I’m the best in the world. That’s a scary thing for Jarred Brooks. You will lose because of your arrogance.”

Joshua Pacio’s record hasn’t changed since he last fought in September 2021. The Team Lakay fighter put together a four-fight winning streak, including victories over Yosuke Saruta and Alex Silva, who were former ONE strawweight world champions.
Suffice to say, the 26-year-old power-hitter has proven to be one of the most dominant champions in ONE history. Hence, it will take a lot more than harsh words from Brooks to intimidate Pacio into submission.
Joshua Pacio wants to set an example for the next generation of fighters in his home country
Joshua Pacio said he won’t meet Jarred Brooks in the middle when it comes to trash-talking. Understanding from an early age that everything you think, say, and do has a ripple effect, Pacio avoids disparaging opponents in order to hype fights.
Although he understands that half of the things that Brooks says in the promos are for entertainment purposes only, Pacio just doesn’t look at fights the same way.
He previously told SCMP MMA:
“I’m setting an example for the next generation here in my country. It’s all about the core values of martial arts, so just do his thing, whatever he wants, and this is mine. I can’t do trash-talking because this is my personality.”
