News recently surfaced that Nick Diaz's fight against Vicente Luque is getting rescheduled. In a report by Alex Behunin of MMA Mania, the fight, which was originally booked for UFC Abu Dhabi last month, is in the works of getting rebooked to UFC 310 in December.
The initial issue of the original booking was due to visa issues as it was supposed to take place in the UAE. It would have been Diaz's return to action since his short-lived and disappointing comeback in 2021, in which he lost to Robbie Lawler via TKO.

Fans are reacting to this news in various ways, with @LFCJAKK_ suggesting a different match-up:
"Just book him vs. Tony [Ferguson]"
Meanwhile, The Combat Sports Matrixer took into account Diaz's lengthy inactivity as compared to Luque who is significantly more active than him, saying:
"This isn’t the fight to make. Diaz is washed and is an OG of the MMA game he should be fighting someone who is similar to him not someone who is an active younger fighter. The UFC should be matching Diaz up with someone like Tony and that should be Tony’s retirement fight"

Comparing Nick Diaz and Vicente Luque's recent activity
To understand the pushback from fans on Vicente Luque vs. Nick Diaz, one only has to look at the astronomically different records of the two fighters in the past decade or so. Diaz, despite being one of the best and most celebrated fighters of all time, has only fought four times since 2012, winning only one bout.
By contrast, Vicente Luque has had 27 bouts in the same timeframe, going 19-8. And despite Luque going 2-3 in his last five outings, one can't deny his clear advantage over Diaz in terms of activity.
One more striking difference is the competitors' age, being that the Brazilian fighter is nearly a decade younger than the Stockton native. Diaz, who is now 41, found most of his success outside the UFC, making a name for himself as the best fighter outside the organization for some time. He held the Strikeforce, WEC, and IFC welterweight belts.
Despite all the doubts from fans, we can never truly tell if this will be the execution they're expecting it would be. Though Diaz has been inactive in the octagon, he has remained active, constantly training in and out of the gym. Also, he has that Stockton bad-boy persona that he can pull out anywhere, anytime. We can never count him out.
