Islam Makhachev will take on Renato Moicano in the main event of UFC 311 on roughly 24 hours' notice after Arman Tsarukyan withdrew from the fight due to injury. The new main event will be contested for the lightweight title, and both Makhachev and Moicano have been praised for their willingness to fight on short notice.
The lightweight champion's longtime manager, Rizvan Magomedov, also took the opportunity to cement Makhachev's place as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world over Jon Jones in light of the recent circumstances.
Since Jones' return to fighting at UFC 309 in November, there have been lengthy debates about whether 'Bones' or the Dagestani fighter deserved the title of the No.1 pound-for-pound (P4P) fighter in the world.
UFC CEO Dana White remained steadfast in his belief that until the day Jones retires, he would be the best P4P fighter alive.

But following Tsarukyan's UFC 311 withdrawal, Magomedov took to X to remind fans of the time that 'Bones' did not accept a short-notice title fight against Chael Sonnen at UFC 151 after Dan Henderson withdrew on eight days' notice.
The MMA manager wrote this:
"Just a reminder here, why @MAKHACHEVMMA is the P4P best today. Jon Jones pulled out in absolutely identical situation back in the days in his prime. Just facts."

Islam Makhachev speaks out after late change of opponent at UFC 311
Islam Makhachev and Arman Tsarukyan were scheduled to clash in an epic rematch at UFC 311 on Jan. 18 for the lightweight title. Having faced off in a thrilling contest in 2019 at UFC Fight Night 149, many fans were eager to see which fighter had improved more over the years.
But Tsarukyan suffered a back injury that forced him to withdraw from the bout with less than two days to go. Surging contender Renato Moicano, who was set to fight Beneil Dariush on the main card of UFC 311, has stepped up to replace 'Akhalkalakets'.
Following the last-minute change of opponent, Makhachev has shared an assured statement, writing this:
"What does this title represent? It means you're the best in the world and if you're the best in the world, it doesn't matter who's going to be standing across from you. What do I say? No? NEVER. Let's do this."
