Kade Ruotolo and Jackie Buntan secured two of the biggest wins of the night at ONE 169 this past weekend. At Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, both competitors got their hands raised in recent transitions that they have made in their careers.
For Kade, this came in the form of a second consecutive submission win in his MMA career as he finished Ahmed Mujtaba in the first round. He showed clear evolution from his debut outing at ONE 167 earlier this year, where he defeated Blake Cooper by showing more confidence in his striking.
As for Buntan, she stepped into kickboxing for the first time in her career and went toe-to-toe with the experienced Anissa Meksen. At the end of five very closely contested rounds, she earned the victory and in the process, became the inaugural women's strawweight kickboxing world champion.
During his post-event press conference, Kade Ruotolo passed on some words of encouragement and advice to his fellow ONE athlete:

"I mean, that's a completely different world. I don't have too much to say in that. The only advice I'm going to say is enjoy her win. Enjoy it and nothing, no rush to rush back."

Kade Ruotolo has still got some work to do before he's in the title picture
Unlike Jackie Buntan who was able to make the switch over from Muay Thai with just a few small adjustments, Kade Ruotolo has a much longer path ahead of him.
The ONE lightweight submission grappling world champion is taking all the right steps to ensure that he's progressing the right way.
This showed on Nov. 8 at Lumpinee Stadium where he displayed clear improvements from his first fight against Cooper.
Ruotolo is always going to have the ability to submit any opponent that he gets in there with but dropping Mujtaba with his striking was a big statement from the rising contender.
