Kamaru Usman is eager to regain his welterweight championship from Leon Edwards after losing it via head-kick knockout in the final minute of his bout at UFC 278.

During episode #3 of UFC 286: Embedded, Usman sent out a warning to Edwards that he plans on making his title reign short-lived and putting a definitive end on their trilogy. He mentioned that 'Rocky's comments about him being mentally affected by the knockout are based off of who he surrounds himself with.

He said:

"He's speaking from ordinary perspective. You know, he's around ordinary people who've done ordinary things, and they think ordinary." [4:55 - 5:02]

'The Nigerian Nightmare' added that he will show Edwards that he is an extraordinary fighter as he ends his 6-month title reign in his hometown at UFC 286, saying:

"I'm not ordinary, I'm extrordinary. And so, March 18, I get to go prove that to myself, I get to prove that to him as well. You know, whether he's sad or whether he's happy that he takes to the belt for at least 6-months, you know, now it's gone. And he's gonna say, 'Damn, that guy was extrordinary.'" [5:03 - 5:18]

The trilogy is intriguing because there are many variables, such as Usman looking to regain the welterweight championship in 'Rocky's home country, and the reigning champion knowing that he is capable of finishing 'The Nigerian Nightmare.'

Leon Edwards recently fired back at Kamaru Usman for saying that he believes he is still a better fighter despite what happened in their most recent bout at UFC 278.

Edwards took part in British GQ's Actually Me video on their YouTube channel, where he replied to questions on social media platforms. He came across a tweet that had a caption of 'The Nigerian Nightmare's comment.

He responded, saying:

"You can think what you want to think. The proof is there, in the pudding. Like I said, I'm the champ and that's it. He keeps going around saying, 'We all know who the champ is.' Yeah, the guy that knocked you out. That's who the champ is, you know." [1:11 - 1:21]

There will be a lot at stake for both their respective legacies when they compete in their trilogy bout, so it will be interesting to see what transpires and whether the result will be the same.
