Young athletes always look up to successful veterans for advice and ONE Muay Thai star Liam Harrison is down to play the mentor role for rising star Nico Carrillo.

'Hitman' knows of the world champion potential that Carrillo has in him and gave him some advice in an interview with the South China Morning Post:

"No fighter just wants to wait for a title shot. You can't get yourself in that position and just wait. By the time that title gets contested now, if it's in September, it might not be until next year [if Nico Carrillo gets his fight]."

He continued:

"But yeah, I spoke to him recently, I told him, get yourself back out there, keep your name on everyone's lips, keep knocking 'em out, keep getting the bonus cheques."

For context, 'The King of the North' has been pining for Jonathan Haggerty's bantamweight Muay Thai world championship in the hopes of dethroning him, but is yet to receive the opportunity.

Liam Harrison's above advice to Carrillo just might be the motivation that he needs entering his fight against Saemapetch Fairtex at ONE Fight Night 23 on July 5.

Liam Harrison set for ONE 167 action

The 38-year-old Muay Thai veteran will make his return to the Circle at ONE 167 on June 7 against Katsuki Kitano inside the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand.

Harrison has been on the shelf for the better part of nearly two years due to injuries, but his willingness to keep fighting has him on a collision course with the young Japanese star in what the Bad Company product expects to be an all-out war.

ONE 167 will air live and for free to all Prime Video subscribers in the United States and Canada.
