Kevin James starred in an MMA movie, 'Here Comes The Boom', that was released in October 2012.
The Grown Ups star played a goofy biology teacher named Scott Voss who was a decent collegiate wrestler back in the day. When downsizing started to threaten the school's music program, James aka Voss decided to save it by putting on MMA gloves as a side gig.
The heartwarming comedy shows the entire school rallying behind Kevin James as he goes on to become a UFC champion from the humble beginnings of an undercard replacement fighter.
The movie features various MMA stars including former UFC fighters like Jason 'Mayhem' Miller, Krzysztof Soszynski, Mark Munoz and Chael Sonnen. Meanwhile, former UFC heavyweight champion Bas Rutten plays the crucial role of James' coach Niko.

Other prominent MMA personalities like renowned Brazilian coach Rafael Cordeiro, UFC color commentator Joe Rogan, ring announcers Bruce Buffer and Mike Goldberg, referee Herb Dean and cutman Roberto 'Stitch' Duran also played cameos.
Filming fight scenes with seasoned veterans inside the octagon, Kevin James admittedly took a few hits. The Hollywood actor said during an appearance on The MMA Hour in 2012:
"I got tagged a lot in the film. I got to be honest, I got punched a lot. What you're basically trying to do is teach these guys who have been taught their whole lives to hit this target, what they've been born to do, and now you're asking them right before we shoot a scene to miss the target by a couple of inches."

Kevin James claims his MMA co-stars were downright professional actors
Like in the movie 'Here Comes The Boom', Bas Rutten was the first fight Kevin James came across. A fan of Rutten, James quickly bonded with the former UFC champ, who introduced him to others from the MMA fraternity.
In addition to being friendly and regular folks, some of the fighters that James met were also allegedly better than average actors. James further told Ariel Helwani during his appearance on The MMA Hour:
"'Mayhem' Miller was unbelievable at that [turning from fighter to actor]. They all were. Krzysztof was amazing. In the fight scenes I would hit them, and I would feel horrible about it. But they didn't even notice it. 'I didn't even feel it, don't worry about it. They were all such professionals. Mark Munoz was great and Chael Sonnen was fantastic. They all played their part and they all got the comedy of it. There was just no ego in it and I loved it."
