Islam Makhachev was able to defend his lightweight title for the fourth time this weekend as he defeated Renato Moicano via first-round submission at UFC 311. His performance drew praise from his long-time training partner and close friend Khabib Nurmagomedov, who was in his corner for the bout.

The UFC Hall of Famer took to Instagram to share a message of encouragement, labeling Makhachev as the best in the world. 'The Eagle' shared a photo of himself in the corner, captioning the post:

"Yesterday was a rough night, as I expected. @islam_makhachev has once again proven that he is the best in the world at the moment, and I am very happy for him and for his journey in this sport, in the entire history of mixed martial arts, very few fighters have achieved what he has achieved. Keep working my brother, this is not the limit 👊... There is good in everything, we as believers must understand that Allah's command is better than our desire."

Khabib also shared uplifting words for Umar Nurmagomedov and Tagir Ulanbekov, who also competed on the card. Makhachev's victory broke a tie with 'The Eagle', B.J. Demetrious Johnson was among those who praised Islam Makhachev for his dominant performance at UFC 311. Speaking on his Mighty podcast, 'Mighty Mouse' shared his immediate reaction to the submission finish, adding that Max Holloway texted him praising the lightweight champion. The former UFC flyweight champion added:

"When you fight the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, you're not just fighting the skill, the technique, the cardio. You're also fighting the IQ, the intelligence of the athlete and Islam has fought the best of the best of the division. He's fought Charles Oliveira, Arman Tsarukyan, Dustin Poirier. He's been in some wars and he's able to take the fight wherever he wants to... He got my black ass twice with it so 'Money Moicano' should not feel bad whatsoever."
