Khalil Rountree is set to receive the first title opportunity of his mixed martial arts career when he challenges Alex Pereira for the light heavyweight belt at UFC 307 this weekend. 'The War Horse' recently hinted that he could use a move that has never been seen before in the upcoming clash.
The No. 8-ranked light heavyweight previously shared that he had a move that had never been seen before on The Joe Rogan Experience: MMA Show. When asked about the move by Megan Olivi of ESPN MMA, he confirmed that it does exist before adding:
"When I was talking to Joe [Rogan] and I told him that, yeah, I have plans to do this hopefully in my next fight, at that time, I didn't know that I'd be fighting Alex. I was still like I don't know when I'm going to fight, I don't know who I'm going to fight next. There are guys in the division that I can see it working on 100%."
Rountree continued:

"There could be a possibility of this happening, of this move, this technique happening. There could be. Yeah. I mean, it's definitely possible. Am I hunting for it? No. If it presents itself, everyone will know, like, 'oh s**t, that's it, that's what he was talking about'."

Rountree has already picked up a finish that was the first of its kind, as he became the first fighter to use an oblique kick to finish a fight when he defeated Modestas Bukauskas via second-round TKO at UFC Fight Night 191. That marked the beginning of a five-bout win streak, including four TKOs, that landed him a chance to fight for the light heavyweight title.
Anderson Silva predicted Khalil Rountree would become a UFC champion nearly a decade ago
Anderson Silva is widely considered one of the greatest mixed martial artists of all time. Following a sparring session back in January 2015, the long-time middleweight champion labeled Khalil Rountree as a future UFC champion. Speaking to the media at the time, 'The Spider' joked along with rumors that he was knocked out by the No. 8-ranked light heavyweight before adding:
"Khalil is the next champion, 185. He's the next one."

Rountree was just two fights into his professional mixed martial arts career at the time. After two more bouts, he would compete on 'The Ultimate Fighter 23' and earn a UFC contract. Silva was at a different point in his career as he was preparing to face Nick Diaz in his return from a broken leg.
