In an interview with Fight Energy Films, the No. 7-ranked light heavyweight stated:
"So in the locker room, I was very relaxed to the point to where I asked my coach like I’m very relaxed. Like is that okay? And he’s like yeah it’s perfect. When I was in the cage and he was walking out, the only thing I can really remember is just being happy."

Alex Pereira praised Khalil Rountree Jr. for his strong showing at UFC 307
After defending his light heavyweight strap for a third time in 2023, Alex Pereira silenced his doubters yet again. Early in the fight, Pereira blinded Khalil Rountree Jr. with a punch and capitalized on every opening. The Brazilian broke his opponent down and finished him along the fence in round four with sheer dominance.
Many of 'Poatan’s' critics were unhappy with the matchup and insisted that he must have defended his title against top-ranked contender Magomed Ankalaev.
Nevertheless, The War Horse' displayed his endurance and delivered a standout performance, earning the respect of the light heavyweight king. In the post-fight octagon interview, Pereira said:
"I can say that this was one of the toughest fights. I expected that. He showed tonight why he’s got so much quality in here."
