Khalil Rountree Jr. fell short in his UFC 307 title fight against Alex Pereira, losing via TKO in the fourth round, but he left the octagon with his head held high. The bout earned 'Fight of the Night' honors, with Rountree giving the champion one of the toughest battles of his career, winning the first two rounds on all three judges' scorecards.
Despite the loss, Rountree’s resilience was clear. In a surprising post-fight revelation, he shared on social media that he had suffered a deep cut on the bridge of his nose three weeks before the fight. He knew it would reopen during the bout, which it eventually did. He also posted a video of doctors stitching up the cut before UFC 307.

Former two-time middleweight champion Israel Adesanya reacted to the fight:
“He’s [Pereira] got some hard fights in front of him, but he is that guy right now… Shoutout to Khalil and his heart, fighting with a broken nose, a f***** eye, he knew not to blow his nose in the fight, respect and stock will go up after this… What a moment.”
