As for the MMA scene, Strickland had been campaigning for a rematch with Dricus du Plessis, believing he won their initial encounter at UFC 297 earlier this year, where 'Tarzan' lost his middleweight belt via split decision.
However, the promotion initially declined his request and scheduled him against former title challenger Paulo Costa at UFC 302. Strickland won by split decision. Du Plessis vs. Strickland 2 is now officially set for UFC 312.
Meanwhile, Chimaev is coming off a dominant first-round submission victory against Robert Whittaker at UFC 308, a performance that many anticipated would land him a title shot next.
