A member of the Gracie family, who also competes in the UFC, recently gave his take on Gordon Ryan's steroid remarks. The individual voiced his disapproval after Ryan said that PEDs are legal in the grappling world.
For context, Ryan and BJJ star Mikey Musumeci have been at odds because of their divergent views on drug use. Ryan has supported the use of performance-enhancing drugs in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, despite Musumeci's strong opposition to it.
In a video on his YouTube channel, Ryan discussed the use of steroids, while citing that they are legal. He said:
''Steroids are legal in Jiu-Jitsu, the only place they're not legal is in the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) where they started testing after I had won the worlds...but I never competed in IBJJF when steroids were illegal. I never competed in any event where steroids were illegal...steroids are legal so why wouldn't you use steroids.''

That didn't sit well with the aforementioned UFC fighter Kron Gracie, who reposted Ryan's comments on his Instagram story. Gracie disagreed with it, writing:
''It's illegal in every sport, only in jiu-jitsu and MMA people look past this and think it's ok?! Lance Armstrong lost everything and he's just riding bikes.''
As for the combat sports scene, Ryan suffered a knee injury during this year's ADCC tournament. He is coming off victories over Felipe Pena and Yuri Simoes on Aug. 17 and Aug. 18, respectively.
Meanwhile, Gracie isn't having a good time inside the octagon as he is currently on a three-fight losing streak. In his recent MMA outing at UFC 310 earlier this month, the 36-year-old took on Bryce Mitchell in a featherweight bout and suffered a third-round knockout defeat.
Gordon Ryan defends usage of PEDs in combat sports competitions
Gordon Ryan supports the use of steroids by fighters since it improves their performance.
Ryan defended his comments on using drugs in combat sports at the UFC 310 post-fight news conference by saying:
''The reason people watch professional sports is to see the absolute best athletes in the world do what they do. And when you take performance enhancers, it makes you a better athlete. So I just think that across the board, if people wanna see the best athletes, the best athletes are the people on PEDs...So then you have natural guys competing against juice guys anyways. Whereas if they’re legal, then everybody can just take as many steroids as they want.''
