Laura Sanko is a well-know face on the UFC's color commentary team. The popular media personality recently revealed a "little-known fact" about her connection with Alex Pereira's coach.
Sanko is a former professional mixed martial artist who made her debut at Invicta FC 4 in January 2013 against Cassie Robb. Despite winning the fight by a second-round submission, she couldn't turn up for more outings due to a lack of atomweight divisions in many promotions and her pregnancy. Instead, she chose to become a commentator.
Recently, Sanko took to her Instagram and shared a surprising fact about herself and Pereira's coach Plinio Cruz. The 43-year-old revealed that she trained under Cruz's supervision in 2008.
"Little known fact: @pliniocruzmma was my coach when I lived in NYC. He barely spoke English and he nicknamed me “Tweetie Bird” because I was so small. 😂 Crazy to see how far we’ve both come in our journey in 17 years!"

Notably, in January 2023, Sanko became the first female color commentator since Kathy Long in 1993 to appear on a UFC broadcast.
Laura Sanko reacts to Khabib Nurmagomedov getting escorted out of a plane
The former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov was recently deboarded from a flight when he was flying to Los Angeles on a Frontier Airlines plane. After a brief argument with the staff, Nurmagomedov was escorted off the flight. He was sitting in an exit row seat where passengers may be required to assist others in an emergency.
Despite Nurmagomedov's nod to both knowing English and having the ability to assist the passengers in an emergency, he was taken out. A video of the incident later went viral on the internet, evoking a response from MMA fans, fighters, and experts alike.
Taking to her X account, Laura Sanko also reacted to it and wrote:
"I actually can’t imagine someone I’d want MORE to be in charge of throwing a door open and helping in an emergency than @TeamKhabib."
