Fans gave mixed reactions to Jon Jones studying footage of his next opponent, Stipe Miocic, ahead of their UFC 309 clash. Jones will return to competition to attempt his first heavyweight title defense against the former two-time champion.
While the matchup has been criticized due to Miocic being way past his prime, 'Bones' seems to be taking his opponent's skills seriously. Jones is hailed for his high fight IQ and famously maintains a 'playbook' on his opponents to help him break down their fighting styles and exploit tendancies.
Recently, he took to X and posted pictures of him doing tape study of Miocic's UFC 260 fight against Francis Ngannou, presumably to make notes into his playbook.

Jon Jones might retire after his UFC 309 clash against Stipe Miocic
In recent months, Jon Jones' potential fights against interim title holder Tom Aspinall and light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira have picked up steam. Additionally, some members of the MMA community have suggested the highly anticipated cross-promotional fight between 'Bones' and Francis Ngannou.
However, Jones feels that he may not have a lot of time left in the sport. Speaking to Clocked N Loaded after Noche UFC 306 event, Jones said that his preparation for the Miocic fight was going well but added:
"It's going to be the last time."
When asked if it would indeed be his last MMA bout, Jones reiterated:
"More than likely."

UFC 309 will take place on Nov. 16 at the iconic Madison Square Garden. It will be Jones' first competitive appearance since defeating Ciryl Gane to win the UFC heavyweight title in March 2023. Meanwhile, Miocic has not competed since losing the title to Ngannou in 2021.
