Legend GSP congratulates Jonathan Di Bella on world title-winning performance at ONE 162

Jonathan Di Bella just received royal praise from the martial arts king of Montreal.

Di Bella stamped his place in martial arts lore when he captured the vacant ONE strawweight kickboxing world title at ONE 162 against Zhang Peimian this past Friday, at Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur.

Former two-division UFC champion Georges St-Pierre took to his Instagram story to congratulate Di Bella on his historic win.

“New Champion 👏 Congrats @jondibella.”

Jonathan Di Bella entered the circle as a newcomer, however, the showdown between the two was nothing short of epic.

The two strikers put on an offensive clinic during the main event of 162 with neither fighter backing down. Both Di Bella and Zhang had their moments of brilliance throughout the fight.

Things hit a crescendo in the fifth when Di Bella tagged Zhang with a thunderous left roundhouse that dropped the Chinese striker in the final minute of the fight.

Although Zhang was able to stand up and continue, Di Bella continued his offense and that late knockdown ultimately earned him a unanimous decision win.

Jonathan Di Bella unsurprised with world title win

Jonathan Di Bella knew that his world title win at ONE 162 was the culmination of a long journey that he and his father shared.

The Canadian-Italian star’s father Angelo was a multi-time kickboxing world champion and the man who introduced Di Bella to the sport.

Di Bella now trains under his father and claiming the ONE strawweight kickboxing world title is a testament to all the hard work they've put in.

In his post-fight interview with Mitch Chilson, Di Bella said:

“I’m not surprised! I’m not surprised baby, it’s all hard work. Me and my dad, we’ve been through it all especially in this camp, we’ve been through a crazy car accident, we’ve been through all over crazy things and we still made it out here.”
