Usman has also said something along the same lines, previously claiming to clearly be a greater mixed martial artist than Leon Edwards.

In a GQ interview, Edwards hit back, saying:

"You can think what you want to think. The proof is in the pudding. I'm the champ, we all know who the champ is. I knocked you out. That's who the champ is." (1:12-1:20)

Given that Usman dominated Edwards in their first fight back in 2015 and appeared to be in cruise control up until he got finished in their rematch, many fans believe Usman is genuinely the better fighter.

Leon Edwards, however, got the last laugh and viciously stopped Usman to become the welterweight champion.

Considering that Usman beat Edwards the first time around and dominated a significant portion of their second fight, he will head into the trilogy bout with a fair amount of confidence.

Usman appears to have taken the loss well and says that it lit a fire under him. He belives in his abilities and is confident heading into their trilogy bout. In the Anatomy of a Fighter promo for UFC 286, Usman said:

"It's a matter of me still remembering who I am, going in there and being mindful of what has happened. But ultimately, reminding him who he is. Who he's less than."
