Hailey Welch opens up about viral fame and "Creepy" social media experience

In an interview with the Plan Bri Uncut podcast, Hailey Welch discussed the challenges of online attention and her desire to move beyond the viral video.

The now-21-year-old Welch found herself in the internet spotlight after a street interview clip featuring a slang term went viral. While the video propelled her to meme status, Welch admitted discomfort with the unwanted attention and the association with it.

The sudden fame also brought a wave of online impersonation. Welch recounted the unsettling experience of seeing fake social media accounts posing as her, using photos taken from her friends' profiles.

Speaking in the interview, Welch said:

"I don't really like that to be my image. Like, Hawk Tuah Girl? I just don't see that being... I don't want to be known as that.... They started spelling my name wrong and started making accounts of me. They got pictures from my friend's social media accounts and stuff like that... It's kind of creepy seeing your face on another account that doesn't belong to you.
