Liam Harrison is taking things one step at a time at this point in his career.

Following his clash with ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world champion Nong-O Hama at ONE on Prime Video 1, ‘The Hitman’ has been sidelined with a knee injury. That has forced him to be smart about his next moves.

Despite being offered several great opportunities to get back between the ropes, the striking veteran knows that he is at a stage in his career where if he wants to continue competing at a high-level, he must listen to his body.

Whilst that hasn’t kept him out of the gym, it has kept him out of competition for some time, with fans eagerly awaiting his ONE Championship debut given his recent run of fights.

In an interview with The MMA Superfan, Liam Harrison spoke about where he is at with his return:

“Anyone, I’m not too bothered, I don’t wanna start calling people out or anything. I just want to get myself bout-fit, I want to get myself back in the mix, get a couple of wins under my belt again and see if I can get myself back in title contention. That’s the goal.”

Liam Harrison doesn’t see himself winning Openweight Muay Thai World Grand Prix

Due to his significant knee injuries, Liam Harrison has had to pass up on some big opportunities.

After already having to miss out on a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to box Floyd Mayweather in an exhibition boxing match at The O2 arena in London, ‘The Hitman’ is also set to remain on the sidelines during the Muay Thai event of the year.

Announced earlier this year by ONE Championship, the openweight Muay Thai World Grand Prix has got fans eagerly anticipating the reveal of who will be competing in the tournament so that dream matchups can start getting made.

Whilst he is not the kind of fighter that backs away from a challenge, Liam Harrison knows that this particular tournament is not a smart move for him.

In the same interview, he spoke about the barriers to entry for him:

“I’d end up getting killed. I know that some of the guys out there are all for this and that, but just coming back from injury, I’m a little bit older as well.”

He added:

“I wanna preserve my body for as long as I can and now I gotta fight some giants like that. I don’t see how I can beat Regian Eersel or Sinsamut or some of the guys. They are literally twice my size and them guys hit like absolute trucks."
