English Muay Thai legend 'Hitman' Liam Harrison is excited about the upcoming ONE Championship Openweight Muay Thai Grand Prix. The million-dollar tournament is set to kick off later in 2023.

While the tournament was announced earlier, Sinsamut Klinmee has been the only confirmed participant, leaving fans to speculate who else could be participating in the tournament.

Liam Harrison spoke with Volt Lozada of The MMA Superfan in an interview. 'Hitman' named two fighters he would love to see in the Grand Prix:

"People say like Regian Eersel, I love watching them fight. Regian Eersel and Sinsamut they’re both big enough and dangerous enough to win. But it just depends on what’s gonna happen. Is one of the heavyweight guys gonna get in?"

'The Immortal' Regian Eersel is currently a two-sport world champion as he holds the ONE lightweight world title in both kickboxing and Muay Thai. Sinsamut Klinmee is a Thai-born knockout machine.

Dutch-Surinamese Regian Eersel and Sinsamut Klinmee have clashed once previously for the ONE lightweight Muay Thai throne. These two ace strikers are scheduled for a second battle at ONE Friday Fight 9 on March 17. If it were up to Liam Harrison, they would meet again in the Openweight Muay Thai World Grand Prix.

Liam Harrison on his knee injury

Last year, Liam Harrison suffered a severe knee injury when he challenged for the ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world title against Nong-O Hama.

Initially, 'Hitman' believed that he had recovered enough to accept an exhibition boxing match against Floyd Mayweather. Once Harrison hit the gym in full force, though, he realized how severe the knee injury was. He was forced to pull out of his match against Mayweather.

On the injury and Mayweather match, in the above interview, Harrison explained:

“Obviously I've been having some knee problems since the Nong-O fight and, yeah, it just turned out to be a lot worse than originally thought. And I tore a lot of the main ligaments in my knee, and the only way I was gonna repair them was with surgery.”

In a discussion with his surgeon, it was revealed that if he went ahead with the match, he might cause permanent damage that would hold him back from ever fighting in Muay Thai again. Liam Harrison continued:

"I said, ‘Listen, am I gonna be able to do this fight [against Mayweather]? It’s only boxing.’ And he told me, he said basically, ‘Be careful because you might be doing some damage that might be irreversible, you might be needing a knee replacement by the time that you’re 40."
