In a recent interview appearance, British Muay Thai sensation Liam Harrison revealed why Floyd Mayweather’s ‘exhibition bouts’ are not what they seem.
Last month, the UK star was approached by Floyd Mayweather’s team to fight the retired boxing legend; exhibition style at the O2 Arena in London. While Harrison hadn’t given them a response, Mayweather jumped the gun by confirming their fight on social media.
However, to the disappointment of many, Harrison immediately shut down the reports, citing an injury as one of the reasons why he couldn’t accept the boxer’s invitation.
Looking back on the initial conversations he had with Mayweather’s team, Harrison knew exactly what he was going to get himself into had he accepted the fight against Mayweather.

In an exclusive interview with The MMA Superfan, ‘Hitman’ said:
“Let’s say ‘exhibition bout’ is not an exhibition because I see what he does during these exhibitions. He knocks ‘em flat out. He’s beating up everyone in these exhibitions.”

Indeed, Liam Harrison’s assessment above does carry some weight. Mayweather’s exhibition bouts or “heists” as he appropriately calls them, are focused on knocking out opponents for the “easy money.” So far, he’s dropped Japanese kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa, MMA fighter Mikuru Asakura, and UK YouTube influencer, Deji.
Nonetheless, Liam Harrison would have liked to take on the challenge. As mentioned in the interview, he wanted to be the first real guy to give the boxer a run for his money. Despite having big plans with ONE Championship this year, the UK star is still open to fighting Mayweather once he’s recovered.
Liam Harrison explains his disappointment at not being able to fight as planned with ONE Championship
It’s not an understatement to say that Liam Harrison’s knee injury came at the most inopportune moment of his career with ONE Championship.
Harrison was looking forward to starting his journey back to redemption after suffering a disappointing first-round loss to Nong-O Hama for the ONE Muay Thai bantamweight world title.
According to ‘Hitman,’ the promotion had big plans for his return, scheduling three major fights at the start of the new year that included a catchweight Muay Thai fight with Rodtang Jitmuangnon.
Unfortunately, those plans were put on the back burner once the promotion discovered Harrison was going to need surgery for an old injury.
Speaking more about this, Hitman said:
“So they were some of the biggest fights imaginable for me out there. Obviously, I’ve been having so many knee problems since the normal fight and yeah, it just turned out to be a lot worse than originally thought.”
After having a successful surgery, ‘Hitman’ Liam Harrison is optimistic about his future in ONE Championship. Ahead of schedule, he plans to be back in the circle very soon.
