UK superstar Liam Harrison will not be participating in the ONE Openweight Muay Thai World Grand Prix tournament this year.
The former WBC Muay Thai world champion made it clear this week that he needs to be careful with his body as he’s pushing into his 40s. Therefore, participating in an open-weight category would mean career-suicide if he were to entertain the idea.
Speaking to The MMA Superfan, Harrison explained:
“I wanna preserve my body and I wanna try to get at least another 18 months to two years back at a good level of fighting before I call it a day.”

‘Hitman’ Liam Harrison has had his fair share of injuries during his long kickboxing and Muay Thai career. Still feeling the effects of an old knee injury from his recent world title bout against Nong-O Hama, Harrison would rather focus on getting better than diving into a tournament where the probability of him winning is close to zero.
As a result of an ACL tear, Harrison has had to cancel or postpone fights at ONE Championship. He had major fights lined up for him, including a potential exhibition showdown with retired boxing legend Floyd Mayweather and a rematch with Nong-O Hama for the ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world title. Hoping to be back at the end of the summer, Harrison anticipates nothing but a speedy and healthy recovery.
Liam Harrison is on the grind back to recovery in a new photo posted on Instagram
Liam Harrison updated fans on his road to recovery following a knee injury he sustained during training last year.
After having a successful reconstruction surgery on his knee, Harrison has been on the grind back to recovery. Some of the images he posted recently on his Instagram saw him return to doing cardio and lifting weights with his legs. However, he still can’t have a sparring session or any running until he’s 100% recovered.
Going through rehabilitation has been difficult to say the least, but his doctors say he’s ahead of schedule, which fans are thrilled to know.
Feeling almost like himself again, ‘Hitman’ wrote the following caption on Instagram:
