Liam Harrison says surgeon warned him of not withdrawing from boxing bout against Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Liam Harrison suffered a knee injury (ACL tear) in his world title fight against Nong-O Hama last August. He was planning to rush back and face Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a boxing exhibition bout, but he was persuaded otherwise.
Luckily, the 37-year-old has a great surgeon on his team who warned him of competing before his knee is fully recovered. Harrison told The MMA Superfan:
“I spoke to my surgeon, I said, ‘Listen, am I gonna be able to do this fight? It’s only boxing.’ And he told me, he said basically, ‘Be careful because you might be doing some damage that might be irreversible, you might be needing a knee replacement by the time that you’re 40, you might be always walking with a limp, you might not be able to fight Muay Thai again.’ He said, ‘You need to think about what you’re doing.'”
'Hitman' won three straight contests over Mohammed Bin Mahmoud, Brayan Matias, and Muangthai P.K.Saenchai before running into Nong-O.
The fearless striker has one goal on his mind once he is fully healthy —attaining a world title under ONE Championship and becoming a household name in combat sports.
