Liam Harrison reflected on a time when he underestimated the struggle of fighting outdoors in Thailand.

‘Hitman’ has competed in several countries throughout his highly-credentialed Muay Thai career. Harrison’s last two fights were in Singapore, but there was a time when the three-time world champion consistently fought in Thailand. In a video posted on his Instagram, the 37-year-old shared this story about one of the first times he fought outdoors in Thailand:

“So, like a d**khead, I flew over to Thailand only a week before, not acclimatized, didn’t realize we were fighting outside. First two rounds again, I’ve done alright. I remember trying to get my breath, I went *gasp* and my lungs just opened up that much. I went, 'f**k me'... I was sitting down in the corner going, ‘Richard, I’m f**ked, mate. I’m f**ked.’ I couldn’t get my breath at all…When you step off the plane, it’s like that weird, smoggy, breathing in polluted air.”

Harrison has come a long way since his struggles with fighting outside. The Englishman made his ONE Championship debut in December 2018, losing his first two fights before moving down a division.

After winning back-to-back fights at bantamweight, ‘Hitman’ earned a world championship opportunity in August 2022. Unfortunately for him, Nong-O Hama secured another world title defense with a first-round knockout.

Liam Harrison was seen training with UFC welterweight Ian Garry

Liam Harrison is recovering from a knee surgery that originated from his fight against Nong-O Hama. Although he’s unable to compete, the former Muay Thai world champion has continued coaching in-person and online.

He was recently with UFC welterweight Ian Garry. A video of the interaction was posted on Instagram with the caption:

“⚔️ 2 of the most dangerous men on the planet! ⚔️ We were honoured to film ‘The Future’ @iangarry training down at Bad Company with the legend ‘The Hitman’ @liambadco 🔥”

It’s unclear when Harrison will fight again. The 37-year-old doesn’t have any plans to retire, especially considering his last bout was for a world championship. He’s currently the number four-ranked bantamweight Muay Thai fighter in ONE Championship, with the possibility of earning another title shot by taking out one or two ranked opponents.
