Roger Avary and Quentin Tarantino, renowned Hollywood directors and filmmakers, appeared on Episode #2240 of the Joe Rogan Experience. The filmmaker team collaborated on the 1994 American independent film Pulp Fiction, directed by Tarantino and based on a narrative by Avary.

The podcast covered a range of topics, including filming, politics, and even drugs. Halfway through the episode, the host asked the director duo:

"What happened when the 80s were a cocaine culture? The world kind of shifted from a psychedelic thing from the 60s and the 70s thing to a cocaine thing in the 80s and you get movies like that…”

Avary responded:

“You get a little more edgy and a little less trippy.”

As discussed in the recent episode, in the 1980s, there was a high prevalence of coke consumption. The filmmakers also stated that it was genuine cocaine. There was a dealer named Tuttle who would offer a ton of cocaine in return for movies. That was the first time they'd gotten access to coke in this grand fashion.

The UFC commentator also said that Nick's comedy stop in Boston pushed cocaine and frequently paid performers in cash or drugs.

Meanwhile, Tarantino said that although there was an excess of cocaine, the individuals in the film industry were in control. He did take the drug but then stopped using it. In the podcast, he exclaimed how he got the situation under control:

"Let's bring it together...we all did...we will stay with pot."

Meanwhile, Avary stated that he has children and cannot be on cocaine all the time, which is why he does not use the substance.
