Former ONE flyweight Muay Thai world champion Jonathan Haggerty recently posted about his long road back to world title contention. 'The General' lost his flyweight Muay Thai belt to Rodtang Jitmuangnon back in 2019 and lost the rematch the following year.
Since then, the former world champion has gone on a four-fight winning streak that got him another world title shot, albeit at a higher weight class. Haggerty is now scheduled to face ONE bantamweight world champion Nong-O Hama at ONE Fight Night 9 in Singapore.
In a heart-felt and inspiring Instagram post by Jonathan Haggerty, the fighting Englishman wrote about his long and storied journey:
"2019, the year I lost my @onechampionship world title. We’ve been grinding non stop beating everyone they’ve put in front of me. I have dreamed about holding that world title again and on April 22nd I finally get my chance to make history again. Thank you everyone for the continued support you have shown me through out the years ❤️ #ANDTHENEW #2X"

It was indeed a long, hard road for Haggerty, who had to fight some of the best fighters in ONE Super Series, eventually moving up a weight class due to health concerns. Come April 21st, he will have a shot at redemption. Only this time, he might be facing a fighter just as dangerous and might be even more technical than Rodtang - the great Nong-O Hama.
Jonathan Haggerty looking big and strong ahead of bantamweight Muay Thai world title bout
Jonathan Haggerty is looking big and strong in preparation for his upcoming war with Nong-O Hama. The fighting Brit has successfully made the move from flyweight to bantamweight and has packed 10 more pounds of bulk.
Ahead of Haggerty's ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world title clash in the main event of ONE Fight Night 9 on April 21, ONE Championship posted a video on Instagram reel showing 'The General' ferociously hitting the pads in the gym:
""The General" is going full steam ahead! 🔥 Jonathan Haggerty challenges bantamweight Muay Thai king Nong-O Hama on April 21 at ONE Fight Night 9 on Prime Video 🏆 ! @jhaggerty_"
After back-to-back flyweight wins against Taiki Naito and Mongkolpetch Petchyindee, Haggerty decided to move up to bantamweight after he pulled out of two consecutive fights due to health reasons.
Haggerty passed his initial test with a majority decision win against Russia's Vladimir Kuzmin at ONE on Prime Video 4, albeit at a catchweight of 148 pounds. Now two months out from his five-round clash against one of Muay Thai’s most formiddable world champions, Haggerty is leaving no stone unturned. At least size-wise, he's already on point.
