Liam Harrison reveals knee injury is worse than perceived, promises to take the fight to Floyd Mayweather Jr. if bout gets rescheduled
'Hitman' suffered a leg injury in the opening round of his title bout against bantamweight Muay Thai champ Nong-O last August. Harrison has since revealed that the injury was worse than originally thought, telling The MMA Superfan:
“Obviously I've been having some knee problems since the Nong-O fight and, yeah, it just turned out to be a lot worse than originally thought. And I tore a lot of the main ligaments in my knee, and the only way I was gonna repair them was with surgery.”
Harrison was expected to face boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. in an exhibition match, but he pulled out due to his injury. Still, the hard-hitting striker assures that he'd bring the fight to Mayweather, adding:
“Obviously he’s not gonna be challenging like the top-level boxers of the minute because he’s not a pro boxer anymore. He’s retired, he’s fought in exhibitions, but I think that he saw that I got a big following. The manager, when I spoke to Floyd’s manager, he said ‘Look you look aggressive, will you take the fight to Floyd?’ I said ‘yeah of course. I’m not here to f*cking play around. I’ll take it to him.”
For now, 'Hitman' is focused on getting healthy enough so that he can return to action.
