LOOK: Shamil Gasanov putting in work with Petr Yan at Tiger Muay Thai ahead of Martin Nguyen fight 

Shamil Gasanov was seen working with former UFC bantamweight champion Petr Yan ahead of his second fight with ONE Championship.

Gasanov has a tough upcoming matchup against former two-division world champion Martin Nguyen. The undefeated Russian is spending time at the legendary Tiger Muay Thai gym in Thailand to prepare for his next test in the Circle.

Tiger Muay Thai is always filled with top-tier fighters from all around the world. After a recent training session, Gasanov updated his fans with an Instagram post showing some of the people he worked with. The picture featured several Russian prospects alongside ‘The Cobra’ and Yan, followed by the caption:

“Hard work and dedication 🔥☝️ #onefightnight7 #hardwork”

Training with Yan could help Gasanov continue to evolve as a fighter. ‘The Cobra’ is extremely dangerous on the ground but needs to improve his striking so he can contend for the belt down the road.

Meanwhile, 'No Mercy' is an elite striker that can use his relentless pressure to put Gasanov in uncomfortable positions while training. It’s safe to say that ONE Championship’s featherweight division should be concerned if the undefeated Russian develops elite striking skills to complement his grappling pedigree.

Shamil Gasanov plans to bring featherweight world championship to his village in the Caucasus Mountains

Shamil Gasanov has several mountains to climb before becoming the ONE featherweight world champion. With that said, Gasanov showed he has the potential to beat anyone in the featherweight division after taking out Kim Jae Woong in his promotional debut.

Plenty of world-class fighters have come out of Dagestan, Russia. Meanwhile, Gasanov grew up in a remote village in the Caucasus Mountains, which is a close neighbor of Dagestan. During an interview with ONE Championship, ‘The Cobra’ had this to say about representing his village:

“We had no athletes in the village who had reached high levels of achievement. We had no World Champions, but in other neighboring villages of Dagestan, they had. And I had this idea in my head that we also need a champion. Are we worse than they are?”

Gasanov’s journey to a world championship continues on February 24 at ONE Fight Night 7 on Prime Video.
