Drew Dober's eye cut has become one of the most prominent tales to emerge from UFC Denver. The lightweight mainstay took on the unranked Jean Silva in the third-last bout of the evening, with two men waging war in a back-and-forth affair. The violence both men authored led to an extreme injury for Dober.
Specifically, he suffered a gaping cut across his right eyebrow that ultimately led to a doctor stoppage in round three. While Dober was as game as anyone, determined to continue fighting, he was declared unfit to continue given how large the cut was and that it was above the eye and leaking.
The injury he suffered can be seen in this tweet (NSFW warning for graphic content). It drew a significant reaction from the MMA world, with both fans and fighters alike chiming in with their thoughts.

Middleweight veteran Chris Curtis expressed sadness over the circumstances of Dober's loss.
"Damn... crushed for Dober"
Meanwhile, renowned MMA journalist Ariel Helwani noted the graphic nature of the cut Dober suffered.
"Drew Dober's insanely gnarly cut. And he's loving it."
One fan likened the situation to the recent, failed assassination attempt on Donald Trump, who brushed off a gunshot to the ear.
"Reminds me of the president"
Others, though, continued noting how bloody the cut was.
"Looking like a horror movie out there"

The lightweight action fighter's cut was similar, in its outcome, to the cut that Nate Diaz suffered in his TKO loss to Jorge Masvidal for the 'BMF' championship, which concluded with a controversial doctor stoppage. Unfortunately, cuts above the eyebrow are usually regarded with caution by cage-side doctors.
This is largely due to how it can limit a fighter's eyesight as blood can start flowing into the eye from above. That, however, has never been a concern in Dober's mind, who is well-known for taking part in difficult and violent wars. This time, though, he was given no choice but to stomach the loss.
